Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis & chronic treatment of asthma including prevention of day- & nighttime symptoms. Aspirin-sensitive asthmatic patients. Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Symptomatic relief of day- & nighttime seasonal (adult & childn ≥2 yr) & perennial allergic rhinitis (adult & childn ≥6 mth).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Asthma or allergic rhinitis Adult ≥15 yr One 10 mg or two 5 mg tab daily. Childn 6-14 yr One 5 mg tab daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Not for treatment of acute asthma attacks. Do not substitute abruptly for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Monitor for neuropsychiatric events. W/drawal or dose reduction of oral corticosteroid therapy. Pregnancy & lactation. Infant <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, headache, diarrhea, hyperkinesia, asthma, eczematous dermatitis, rash, somnolence.
Drug Interactions
Decreased plasma AUC w/ phenobarb. Increased systemic exposure w/ gemfibrozil.
